Beating the Heat (or trying to, at least)

This week has been 100+ in Portland, and we are all so hot in our still non-air conditioned home. I especially, with my baby belly furnace, am burning up - sweating just sitting doing nothing! So we've had some outings to various air conditioned places. On Monday, when Alex was in Phoenix on work for the night, Lucia and I went to Washington Square Mall and played at the Bucky Beaver kiddie play area, then over to Pottery Barn Kids to play, and finally had some dinner in the food court. I slept on the floor in Lu's room with her one-room Air Conditioning unit, until 3 in the morning when I moved back to our bed.

Tuesday we went to the Public Library in Hillsdale and read books. Lucia also enjoys playing on the block step structure in the children's books area. We stayed for an hour before coming home. Alex got home around 9 pm and he and I turned on the baby monitor and slept in the guest room downstairs in the basement, which was only about 75 or so. Still, it's not easy sleeping in a different bed, and we both woke up several times at night.

Tonight Alex and I both took Lucia to the Mall again and she played in the kiddie play area again, then we went to a McMenamins by our house for dinner with Linden & E Ben & Jude, just returned from New York! It was 94 in the house when we got home at 7:45, even after having the house boarded up all day. We're going to sleep downstairs again tonight, and tomorrow we should have our central Air Conditioning!
