Farmer's Market

Alex and I decided to buy a share in Sun Gold Farm this year. We paid up front, and each Saturday from June 20 to October 20, we get a bag full of fresh veggies and fruit, and pick it up at the Portland Farmer's Market in the Park Blocks downtown. So far it is definitely worth the money (works out to just under $20/week) and we're hardly buying vegetables at the grocery store these days. Plus, the bag is worth much more than that if we were to buy all of the produce individually at the Market, and we even get 10% off anything else we buy at the Sun Gold stand.

When we pick up our bag, we park at the edge of Portland State University and walk over to the market. Lucia loves to walk and run through the campus and around the Market. We are teaching her to look both ways before crossing any street, and she's starting to get it. However, it is not always her first choice to "Hold Mama's Hand" as we cross the street. She is very independent!

Today we bought a half flat of raspberries in addition to our normal bag of produce. Lucia and Alex and I enjoyed quite a few immediately!

Lucia also likes to walk on the "balance beam" - which today was the brick edging the sidewalk. You can see all the berry stains on Lu's "Rainbow jacket:"

A few other Lucia tidbits - she is speaking in much more complete sentences these days. Today she picked up the little dollhouse sized baby and placed it in it's pink plastic stroller and started pushing it down the kitchen table. She said "Baby in stroller go to park." It was very cute! And when she trips and falls these days, she will look up and say with teary-eyes "I fell down!" As much as we are comforting her, it is hard not to smile at her complete sentence and using the proper pronoun for herself.

The other cute thing is that Lucia is singing and acting along with her nursery rhymes even more these days. I play Wee Sing for Baby in the car on the way to and from daycare each day, and Lucia sings along. The song
Clap Your Hands gets Lucia singing and clapping her hands at the same time. She is even starting to sing the songs and do the gestures when she is not listening to the CD. Today at the market she kept singing "Quack, quack, quack," from the Six Little Ducks song while we were at the Market today. Just like her Mama, this little girl loves to sing!
