Since we have been expecting Baby Jones #2 any day now, we have purposely celebrated Lucia's birthday twice before her actual birth day, again on the day, and she will take cupcakes to daycare on Thursday the 8th to celebrate one more time.
The first celebration took place last Friday, 10/2/09 at Ben & Annie's house. I made Lucia a yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and wrote "Happy Birthday Lucia" in yellow and green frosting. There was a BALLOON on the cake, too (though everyone else thought it was a flower :-). Here is a good pic of the cake:

Then we all sang Happy Birthday to Lucia. I cropped the video down from the 1:40 min Alex recorded, but needless to say, Lucia LOVES watching the whole thing (over and over again) at home.
The next celebration was at home on Sunday 10/4/09 with Ama and Apa. We made an apple cake with lemon frosting, and since I was running out of decorative frosting, the cake just says "Happy Bday Lucia!" We opened all but one of Lucia's presents on this day. Alex & I bought her a bunch of (totally adorable!) fall clothes, and Ama & Apa gave her a real porcelain tea set (purchased at an estate sale) and the toy perambulator that belonged to one of my dad's sisters, then was given to me around 4 or 5 years old. Lucia loves both of these toys.

And here we are singing Happy Birthday again:
Next, today October 7, 2009. We went to a "new park" (over on Terwilliger) in the morning for 45 minutes, then a snack and on to Toddler Storytime at the Hillsdale Library (they had bubbles and activities too, which Lucia liked better than the stories). Then we went to the Library Park for another 30 minutes, then lunch and nap. This afternoon, the Cornetts came over to celebrate and open Lucia's last present from Mama & Dada - a little percussion music set and a harmonica. Not surprisingly, she seemed to really like this set, since most of these instruments are featured in her Trebellina DVD. Lucia absolutely LOVES Trebellina and Rock Basssey from this video, and sings along, dances, etc, when it plays. Alex and I think it is a bit cheesy, but the video got RAVE reviews on Amazon.com and in general - not a bad way to entertain your kid for ~27 minutes!

We also busted out the growth chart from Amber and marked Lucia at 2 feet 11 inches (aka 35 inches) today. Here she is standing tall (please ignore the gratuitous belly shot... no shirt will contain it for long! :-)

Finally, tomorrow Lucia will take 18 cupcakes to her daycare for the last celebration of her 2nd birthday. Whew! Hopefully the best present of all will be the (late!) sibling she will get sooner or later. Now that we're past Lucia's birthday, I for one am hoping for sooner!
Cute! Quite the birthday multi-celebration for Lucia. Looks like she had a lot of fun (but hadn't quite caught on to the blowing out of the candles part. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Lucia!! Looks like you had a great week of celebrations! I bet she's getting super excited for her little sibling to show up!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great birthday celebration. I'm checking your blog every day wondering when you are off to the hospital. Thanks for the updates.
