Back to Sharing a Room

Lucia and Magdalena shared a room from Magdalena's being 2 months old through about one year and two months. Last winter in China, they started to get colds and be up at different times of night (exacerbated by Lucia's persistent nighttime coughing which did not wake herself up, but did wake up Magdalena), and we had the space, so we split them up for some much needed rest for all.

When we returned home, we tried them out in the same room at first, but they played and wouldn't sleep, plus Magdalena went to bed about an hour before Lucia, so we split them up again.

However, with Baby Jones #3 on the way, Alex and I realized that it was time again to get the girls into the same room. First we switched Magdalena into the Big Girl bed back at the beginning of August (just under 22 months of age - was the same for Lucia). She took to this quite well - loved it, in fact! After about a week, she even got the hang of napping in the big girl bed without distraction.

Next we made the big move on Sunday of Labor Day weekend - moving the futon Lucia has been using into the pink room with Magdalena's Big Girl Bed, and brought the crib out to the red room, along with the changing table/dresser. We have a tall chest of drawers in the girls room that they now use for current clothes (not clothes-in-waiting as it was full of), and pulled up the white changing table from China into that room too.

Here are highlights from that day captured in photos:

As Alex was staging various furniture, the girls practiced sharing with the futon mattress on the floor.

The first night Magdalena went to bed first, and they slept in their own respective beds. But the next night and every once since then, we've put them down together and they seem to have decided all on their own that sharing a bed is much preferable to sleeping in a bed alone! It's super cute!! (Magdalena even naps in the big bed by herself now - and Lucia is being phased out of naps as they allow her to stay up until about 10 pm, which is not good for anyone!):
