Home Again with Jet Lag and Doctors

We got home Sunday night... the kids (well, really just Magdalena), have jet lag. It is horrible. M goes to sleep around 8 or 8:30 only to awaken 2 hours later screaming. We have all been going to bed at the same time, so that means we're all up again after just 2 hours sleep. I nurse, but the first two nights M was WIDE awake till 3 am. And last night, even though M fell back asleep at 12:45, both Alex and I were wide awake until 2 am. And that was the night she chose to wake up again at 3:30, 5:30, then 9 am.

Needless to say, none of us has had a good night's sleep and it has thrown a big wrench in all my big plans to get up early and run and make the most of our days back here in Portland. Bummer.

Magdalena did have her marathon 4 doctor's appointments and blood draw at OHSU today. She started by seeing the craniosynostosis nurse Maureen at 11. Then we had her developmental exam at 1 pm with Dr. Nguyen. She scored above average on cognitive skills (putting things in and out of containers, etc), but just below average on motor skills. She can't crawl yet, and doesn't even like to be on all fours, so we need to work on that. Then at 3:15 she saw the surgeons who are performing her surgery, and after that we got her blood drawn. Both Alex and I are going to give directed-donor blood for her (we think she is O+ as I am, and we're pretty sure Alex is too) - apparently it is rare to not require extra blood during this surgery. Then we went to surgery prep and left OHSU at 4:40 pm. WHEW, what a day! During this time, Apa took Lucia to the zoo and bought her an elephant ear (fried joe to some). She was in heaven. :-) Thank goodness it was just cloudy, not rainy.

Anyway, tonight we are staying up later than usual- Lucia just went down, and M is now crying with her first wake up. Hoping to let her cry it out... MAN we need some sleep!!! Wish us luck!
