Cookies and Coats

Last Saturday we went downtown to Euro-Bake, our very own authentic European-style bakery here in Dalian! It is owned by a Chinese woman and an American man - both speak both languages, and have a great little cafe in Labor Park.

Euro-Bake hosted a holiday cookie decorating family event where we could purchase their pre-made dough, then roll, cut, and decorate our own cookies! It was a lot of fun, though by the time it started at 11 (more like 11:30 by the time everything got going) Lucia was "very hungry" and started eating the dough, sprinkles, and chocolate chips! Thus, we ended up ordering one of their delicious cheese pizzas to tide us all over. We also made two big sheets of cookies, both chocolate and gingerbread dough, and since Lucia was so hungry and quickly lost interest, I basically ended up decorating most of them. Magdalena was a trooper, walking around and playing with Daddy, and Lucia really enjoyed watching the Euro-bake owners wheel the whole cart with trays of cookies into their stand-up oven the size of a shower!

We girls also debuted our new, custom-made, matching black jackets! Alex has one too, very similar, but did not wear his. Mine was about $65, and the girls were about $75 for both. Alex's was about $90, as he is taller. These jackets practically come to our ankles (longer on the girls, shorter on Alex), so I personally think they were a steal - made of a cashmere blend and a down lining that keeps us very warm!

BTW - you may have noticed Lucia wearing dresses a lot more. She loves to wear them, and I figure what the heck? She only has a few, and even if they are "nice" I'd rather she wear them out than not like them. Somehow we manage to get new things for Magdalena even though we really don't need to... so I figure even if Lucia wears a dress out, we'll still have nice things for Thing Two down the road!

  1. I love the concept of the Euro-Bake place - bake cookies AND eat pizza?! Y-U-M. And yes, what a steal on those winter coats!

  2. Looks like a fun holiday outing! The girls are too cute in their outfits, but I particularly like their tights :)
